Ethics & Professional Standards Guide
Through our Professional Standards Department, the Pacific West Association of REALTORS® has one of the most well respected programs in the State of California.
We can offer members of the public and our members numerous ways to assist you in resolving a dispute that may involve a money or ethical issue.
This program is designed to have an experienced broker contact both parties and attempt to settle the matter in a timely
way without filing a formal complaint. If no agreement is reached the complainant may then file a formal ethics complaint.
If you feel you need assistance with filing or responding to a complaint, you may utilize the services of our Ethics Advocate
Program. This Ethics Advocate is a specially trained member of the Professional Standards Committee who can help you through
the process of a complaint. This Ethics Advocate is not an attorney and cannot give legal advice.
This type of filing allows the complainant to submit their complaint for review and not attend a hearing.
All anonymous complaints however, must meet certain criteria in order to be processed.
To preserve the integrity of our industry we encourage REALTORS® to adhere to the National Association’s Code of Ethics.
Any violations of the Code of Ethics, MLS Rules or Bylaws by one of our members should be reported to the association.
If a buyer and/or seller are in a dispute (usually over a deposit or lack of disclosure) PWR offers mediation services
for your clients. Our mediation services provide a quick and professional means of solving the dispute.
All PWR members are required to settle their monetary disputes (usually a commission issue) through the use of our
Arbitration Program. Members submit to PWR an arbitration request including a summary of the events and pay a $500
filing fee. The process will begin and a hearing will be scheduled to settle the matter.
